Salt Brook Jorhat Senior Secondary School (SBJ), a premier institution offering Science, Arts and Commerce streams, stands as one of the finest new-age schools in Assam, affiliated to the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB)—a statutory body constituted under the Assam State School Education Board Act, 2024. The school adheres to the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing conceptual clarity, experiential learning and a strong foundation for higher studies and competitive readiness.
The foundation of SBJ was laid on 28th February 2023, on the observance of C.V. Raman Day, under the aegis of the Model Educational & Welfare Foundation (MEWA). It was founded by Late Prof. Anup Kumar Gogoi, an eminent scholar with global repute and Retired Professor of Department of Electronics & Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati and Mr. Jehirul Ahmed, a distinguished educationist of Upper Assam, with the vision to create a research-driven, innovative and affordable learning environment for the youth of Upper Assam.
Since its inception, SBJ has promoted a scientific and research-oriented culture among students. The school has collaborated with the Jorhat Astronomical Society and established an innovative Flying Club, where students design and operate remote-controlled aircraft models. To foster curiosity and real-world exposure, the school regularly organizes educational tours to leading institutions such as IIT Guwahati, AIIMS Guwahati, IASST and the Science Museum.
SBJ also conducts annual Inter-School Science Model Design Competitions and Mathematics Talent Hunt Examinations to encourage innovation and healthy competition. The school follows an integrated model of education, combining regular board curriculum with competitive examination training for NEET, JEE, CEE, and IAT, thereby helping students build a solid theoretical and experimental foundation aligned with the objectives of NEP 2020.
Initially offering only the Science stream (Classes XI and XII), SBJ has now expanded to include Higher Secondary Science, Arts, and Commerce streams (Classes XI and XII), along with an HS Integrated Programme for Classes IX and X, available in both Assamese and English mediums. The Higher Secondary classes (XI and XII) are conducted exclusively in English medium, ensuring alignment with national-level academic standards.
Currently housed at its city campus in Choladhara, Jorhat, the school is equipped with three state-of-the-art science laboratories, a computer laboratory and air-conditioned smart classrooms, offering a modern and comfortable learning atmosphere. Plans are underway to shift to a permanent green campus in the near future.
